Ari is well known for his clear, energetic, fun teaching style, for his detailed attention to connection and partnership, as well as for his ability to translate even the most complex moves into simple, understandable instructions.

  • Partnering: It is not necessary to attend any of these workshops with a partner. We encourage rotating partners, or you can choose to stay with your own partner.
  • Check-in: Please arrive 15 minutes before your first workshop to check-in.
  • Shoes: Help protect the hall's wooden floors by changing from street shoes to clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing.
  • Carpools: Feel free to post requests and offers on the Mostly Waltz Facebook event page.
  • COVID Precautions: COVID precautions include VAX/booster, masks, and negative COVID tests. See our COVID policy for full details.

Weekend Schedule

Friday, March 18

  • 6:30-7:00pm Check-in
  • 7:00-9:30pm Workshop A: Waltz-Magic (all levels)
We'll start the weekend with a thorough introduction to left-turning rotary waltz (that's CCW, the other way from a contra waltz), add in right turning cross-step waltz, and explore some fun variations, emphasizing lead / follow dynamics. Perfect for beginner and advanced beginner waltzers, ballroom waltzers who want to try this different style, and for more experienced dancers looking to elevate their waltzing, or who might be a tad rusty after the last two years. More experienced dancers might want to try role-switching!
  • 9:30-10:30pm: Open dancing

Saturday, March 19

  • 9:30-10:00am Practice time
  • 10:00-12:30pm Workshop B: Nightclub 2-Step Magic (non-novice dancers, but new to NC2S ok)
We'll quickly learn the basics of Nightclub 2-Step (NC2S), an accessible flowing dance for slow ballads, and then move on to some fun combinations from Ari's library of moves and inventions; beautiful, flowing, and elegant as always. Ari first introduced NC2S to Seattle over 30 years ago, is known as one of the country's leading innovators in this style, and actively teaches this dance around the world. Click here to see an example of NC2S.
  • 12:30-2:00pm Lunch break
  • 2:00-4:30pm Workshop C: Ari's Favorite Waltz Combos (intermediate)
Learn a variety of fun, new, innovative waltz combinations from Ari's ever-expanding library of moves and inventions; beautiful, flowing, and elegant as always. Ari will have you gliding 'n sliding, floating 'n flying across the dance floor in no time at all! Comfort with skills taught in Workshop A and basic partnering skills are assumed.
  • 4:30-5:00pm Guided dance practice
Ask questions, or get feedback from Ari
  • 5:00-8:00pm Dinner break
  • 8:00-11:00pm Evening Mixed Social Dance - deejayd by Ari
Enjoy a mix of waltz and NC2S, plus swing, blues, tango, WCS, latin, etc. (based on crowd and requests).

Sunday, March 20

Great for int/adv waltzers! This workshop will explore some of Ari's creative waltz patterns, using energy and connection for smooth partnering. Click here to see a sample. Facility with both cross-step and left-turning rotary waltz assumed (take Workshop A first if you're rusty).

Meals & lodging

The hall will be open during meal breaks. You are welcome to bring your own food (there is a fridge and microwave in the kitchen), or get take-out from one of the local restaurants to bring back for eating in the hall with your fellow dancers. There will be plenty of room for social distancing if desired, and everyone eating in the hall will have been vaxxed, boosted, and tested. If there is interest, we may organize a group buffet dinner for Saturday evening.

For out-of-towners, there are rooms available at Concord's Colonial Inn, a lovely historic inn that is a 5-minutes walk from the hall. Call the front desk (978-369-9200) for the best rate -- they quoted us $98 + tax per night for a queen-bedded room, refundable until 72 hrs in advance.
