About the Band
Cherven Traktor (Red Tractor) was formed in 2009 to keep alive the sounds of Bulgaria and Macedonia, under the banner “Horoto e vechno!” (The dance is eternal!). They present traditional music and improvisation performed by master musicians: Nikolay Kolev (gadulka), Donka Koleva (vocals), Belle Birchfield (tambura), and Michael Ginsburg (tapan).
Nikolay and Donka graduated from the National School of Folk Arts in Bulgaria, have toured worldwide, and are recognized as world class masters of their art. Belle and Michael are members of Zlatne Ustne Balkan Brass Band, which Michael founded and leads; he is also a well-known Balkan dance teacher who has presented around the world.
