About Oktoberfest 2012

Overview | Schedule

The weekend begins on Friday with a buffet supper, followed by a welcome dance party as people arrive throughout the evening.

The Saturday and Sunday daytime schedules include dance workshops, music workshops, “Culture Corners” (lectures by the guest teachers), a wine and cheese social, and the option of exploring outdoors on the camp’s scenic roads and trails.

Each evening features an international folk dance party with live music, followed by an after-party with lots of tasty food, socializing, and more dancing.

Oktoberfest ends on Monday at 1 pm, after dance reviews and lunch.

What to bring:

  • A USB flash drive for copying music and dance directions.
  • A pillow, twin-sized bedding or a sleeping bag, and towels.
  • A flashlight, with new batteries, for getting around Hulbert after dark.
  • Rain gear and cold-weather clothes.
  • Comfortable clothes for dancing.
  • Dance shoes – Changing to clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing is strongly recommended to help preserve the dance floor and cut down on the need for sweeping.
  • Ethnic costumes and accessories (if you have any) for the Saturday evening dance party.
  • Toiletries, medications you may need, special foods you may need (refrigerator space is available for camper use in the farmhouse kitchen).
  • Additional items that you might find useful – an alarm clock, ear plugs, clothes hangers, and (if you plan to take a walk or to hike in the woods) sturdy shoes or boots.
  • Sports equipment – Hulbert has a number of sports facilities, including outdoor tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts, and a playing field for soccer. You are welcome to bring appropriate equipment to use these facilities.

Good things to know:

  • Driving directions to Hulbert Outdoor Center are available online.
  • When you arrive, come into the main farmhouse by the left-hand door on the front porch to check in. Arrive any time after 4 pm on Friday.
  • Bringing food and/or beverages to share with others is always appreciated. We particularly need munchies for the Friday evening after-party.
  • Some participants like to bring wine to share at dinners and at the wine and cheese party on Sunday afternoon.
  • Dance review sessions on Monday begin at 10 am, followed by lunch from noon till 12:45 pm. Plan to vacate your room before 10 am, and to depart from camp by 1 pm.
  • The emergency phone numbers for Hulbert Outdoor Center are: 802-333-3431 to leave a message, 802-333-3405 to page a member of the staff who can then contact us. There is a phone where you can use a Calling Card for outgoing calls. Cell phone service in Vermont is spotty and not always reliable at Hulbert. There is no internet connection for campers.

See Hulbert Outdoor Center for information about accommodations and camp rules.
