421 Common Street at Palfrey Road
Cushing Square, Belmont, Massachusetts
FAC’s dance space in the social hall of the Belmont United Methodist Church is located at 421 Common Street, Belmont, MA, one block from Trapelo Road at Cushing Square. The church, a large sandstone building, has a small parking lot behind and beside it, accessed by a driveway on Palfrey Road. More parking is available on nearby streets. Enter the church building by the central back door off the parking lot. In consideration of the church’s neighbors, please do not talk loudly outside after leaving the dance.
If you are coming by public transportation from Harvard Square:
Take the #73 bus for Waverly Square via Mount Auburn Street, Belmont Street, and Trapelo Road. After about 3 miles, having passed the Oakley Country Club on the left, get off at the stop by the traffic light in Cushing Square (near the New Asia Restaurant), cross Cushing Avenue and Common Street, and walk one block north on Common Street. Belmont United Methodist Church is on the left, on the far corner of Palfrey Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
If you are driving from Route 128 (I-95):
Take the Trapelo Road/Belmont exit. Go east on Trapelo Road, through Waverly Square at 4 miles, to Cushing Square at 5 miles. At the traffic light in Cushing Square, turn left onto Common Street and go one block north. Belmont United Methodist Church is on the left, on the far corner of Palfrey Road, across from Payson Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
From the Mass. Turnpike (I-90):
Heading east on I-90 from I-95: Get off the Pike at Exit 17 to Newton/Watertown. At the next traffic light, the ramp becomes Centre Street, which joins on the right. Follow Centre Street straight ahead for a short distance, then left across the Pike, then straight towards Watertown on Centre Street. Continue on Centre Street as described below.
Heading west on I-90 from Boston: Get off the Pike at Exit 17 to Newton/Watertown. At the traffic light, turn right towards Watertown on Centre Street.
Continue on Centre Street, which becomes Galen Street in Watertown. As soon as you cross the bridge into Watertown Square, get into the second-from-the-right lane, then at the traffic light go straight onto Mount Auburn Street. Go east toward Cambridge for several blocks and stay in the left lane. At the second traffic light, where there is a cemetery on the far left, turn left onto Common Street. Follow Common Street up, over, and down the hill into Cushing Square. Cross Trapelo Road at the traffic light and go one more block up Common Street. Belmont United Methodist Church is on the left, at the far corner of Palfrey Road, across from Payson Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
From Watertown Square via Mount Auburn Street (Route 16):
Go east toward Cambridge for several blocks and stay in the left lane. At the second traffic light, where there is a cemetery on the far left, turn left onto Common Street. Follow Common Street up, over, and down the hill into Cushing Square. Cross Trapelo Road at the traffic light and go one more block up Common Street. Belmont United Methodist Church is on the left, on the far corner of Palfrey Road, across from Payson Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
From Belmont Center:
From the downtown Belmont area, go south on Leonard Street. After going under the railroad bridge, turn right onto Common Street and go about 1.4 miles. One block before the intersection with Trapelo Road in Cushing Square, Belmont United Methodist Church is on the right, on the near corner of Palfrey Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
From Harvard Square via Mount Auburn Street:
Go west on Mount Auburn Street. Pass Mount Auburn Hospital and Mount Auburn Cemetery on the left. Pass Star Market on the right. At the traffic light after Star Market, turn right onto Belmont Street and go past two intersections with traffic lights. After the second light, pass Payson Park Church on the right, opposite Oakley Country Club. After the golf course, Belmont Street becomes Trapelo Road. Continue on Trapelo Road for five blocks to the Cushing Square intersection; at the traffic light, turn right onto Common Street. Belmont United Methodist Church is one block up Common Street on the left, on the far corner of Palfrey Road, across from Payson Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
From Boston via Storrow Drive West:
Follow signs for Newton/Arlington. Pass Boston University on the left. The name “Storrow Drive” changes to “Soldiers Field Road.” After passing the exit for Harvard Square/Cambridge, keep right and then bear right into the exit for Arlington/Fresh Pond Parkway. Keep right while crossing the Eliot Bridge and follow the road toward the right, then immediately bear slightly left toward the traffic lights ahead (do NOT turn right onto Memorial Drive East). At the second light, bear left onto Mount Auburn Street and go .5 mile. At the traffic light after Star Market, turn right onto Belmont Street and go past two intersections with traffic lights. After the second light, pass Payson Park Church on the right, opposite Oakley Country Club. After the golf course, Belmont Street becomes Trapelo Road. Continue on Trapelo Road for five blocks to the Cushing Square intersection; at the traffic light, turn right onto Common Street. Belmont United Methodist Church is one block up Common Street on the left, on the far corner of Palfrey Road, across from Payson Road. Enter the building by the central back door off the parking lot.
