The Folk Arts Center and Zdravets are pleased to co-sponsor this evening of Bulgarian folk music by the Kabile Bitov Wedding Band, starting with a short concert, followed by Balkan dancing for all.
Kabile specializes in performing native music on traditional village instruments and was one of the most popular bands in Thrace. They played almost every weekend at weddings, baptisms, and cultural festivals for nearly 17 years before two key members emigrated to the US in 1995. The band reunited in 2007 to make a recording and tour the US.
During their 2010 tour, Kabile has been appearing as a quartet:
Donka Koleva, lead vocals
Dzhenko Andreev, gaida (goatskin bagpipe)
Ivan Handzhiev, vocals and accordion
Nikolay Doktorov, kaval (end-blown flute)
For the November 21 performance, they will be joined by
Nikolai Kolev, gadulka
