Marcie Van Cleave, Executive Director

International folk dance teacher

Marcie Van Cleave has been teaching and leading traditional dances in the New England area since the mid-1980s with her characteristic high energy and humor. Her dance teaching experience includes school programs and residencies, bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings, Girl Scout gatherings, and private parties. Recently she has taught folk dance as part the Longy School’s Dalcroze Eurhythmics certification program.

Marcie runs the Folk Arts Center of New England’s Friday night international folk dance series. She has led international folk dance sessions at the New England Folk Festival and has been on staff as a caller at various Country Dance Society, Boston Centre Pinewoods Camp weekends. She enjoys teaching workshops in couple dances such as the waltz and hambo. She has also organized the CDS Pinewoods Labor Day Session, as well as the Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School.

Marcie has been a member of English ritual dance teams for over twenty years and currently dances on a rapper sword side. She plays recorders, and is now an avid fiddle student. She has been the Executive Director of the Folk Arts Center of New England since 1988.
