Educational programs
The International Music Club presents monthly Sunday afternoon workshops in international folk dance music for instrumentalists and singers of all levels. IMC members play and sing for our Friday dance once a month and occasionally at other local dance events.
FAC presents monthly Wednesday night jam sessions in Celtic and international folk music, led by expert musicians. The sessions are open to instrumentalists of all levels. Some sessions include or feature singing.
School and community programs
FAC offers school-based folk dance and music programs and residencies that promote acceptance and appreciation of diverse cultures. These programs are designed to complement many aspects of a school’s curriculum and can be tailored to reflect the ethnic composition of local populations. FAC dance leaders are also involved in community outreach projects with adult education programs, senior citizens, Girl Scouts, Campfire Boys and Girls, and special needs groups. Contact FAC to set up a program with your school or group.
Specialty workshops
FAC sponsors workshops taught by specialists in fields of interest to the folk community. See Special events or Upcoming FAC events for currently scheduled workshops. Past workshops have focused on the traditional music and dance of various ethnic groups, clogging and turning dances, tune writing, dumbek drumming, and sports/dance injury prevention. Also, FAC occasionally offers teacher-training and dance leadership programs.
Folk Dance Leaders’ Forum
The Folk Dance Leaders’ Forum provides meetings for teachers and organizers of recreational folk dance groups to share ideas and information about the issues involved in running a folk dance series.
