The Folk Arts Center of New England is an incorporated nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to promote interest and participation in the traditional dance, music, and related folk arts of many cultures, and to support other groups and individuals with the same mission.
Founded by Conny Taylor and Marianne Taylor in 1975, FAC sponsors weekly and monthly community folk dances, annual camps, a music club, workshops, and other special events. FAC dance leaders and musicians provide cultural programs in schools and community settings. We also offer school residency programs. For more information about all our dances and events, see Programs.
The Folk Arts Center office in Stoneham, MA acts as an information center, providing resource and referral services for traditional dance and music communities in New England and beyond. For details, see Services and Publications.
FAC publishes a quarterly newsletter, FolkNews, and a bi-monthly calendar of area folk dances and events, Folk Dancing ’Round Boston.
The Little Shop of Horas®, FAC’s retail music store located at the office, offers a large selection of traditional music recordings, sheet music, and books.
The Folk Arts Center’s 500-plus members are people of all ages and backgrounds, singles, couples, and families. FAC members and friends provide invaluable volunteer services and financial support that keep the organization going. See Support FAC for information about membership, donations, volunteering, and publicity. FAC has been a recipient of grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the City of Boston, the Melrose Cultural Council, and other funding agencies.
